Possuem cerca de 40cm. Possui dentes em três a quatro fileiras na maxila superior e duas fileiras na maxila inferior.
Onívoro, consome basicamente frutos e sementes. Faz migração reprodutiva no início da enchente, quando desce os afluentes para desovar nos rios de água branca. Nas épocas de migração, ela apresenta importância destacada na pesca, é também um dos peixes mais utilizados na aquicultura regional.

They are usually around 40cm in length. They have teeth in 3 or 4 lines on the top jaw and 2 lines on the bottom jaw.
Omnivorous, they consume mostly fruits and seeds. They do reproductive migration at the beginning of the wet season when the tributaries lower, to spawn in the "white water" rivers. In times of migration, they represent an important part of the industry, and are one of the most used fish in regional aquaculture.
