Alcançando até 30cm, os pacus têm importância em torno de 5% da produção total de Manaus, representando o sexto lugar entre os peixes mais comercializados no mercado. Durante a vazante, quando os peixes estão migrando no leito do Rio são mais vulneráveis à pesca, esta participação dobra chegando a 12%. Herbívoro, alimenta-se basicamente de frutos e sementes. O pico da desova se dá no início da enchente.

Reaching up to 30cm in length, the pacus are important as they make up for about 5% of the total production in Manaus, holding 6th place among the most commercialized fish in the market. During the ebb, when the fish are migrating in the bed of the river, they are more vulnerable to being fished. During this time the production doubles reaching 12%. Being herbivores, their diet consists of fruits and seeds. The peak of their spawning occurs right before the floods.
